Conduction, Convection And Radiation Flashcards
What are the three ways things can lose heat and become cool?
Conduction, convection and radiation.
What is conduction?
A simple explanation for heat conduction is the transfer of heat from one object to another.
What is convection?
Convection occurs when heat is transferred through a gas or liquid by the hotter material moving into a cooler area.
What is Radiation?
Radiation is the transfer of energy through waves or fast traveling particles.
What are conductors?
Substances that allow heat energy to move through them easily.
What are insulators?
Substances that do not allow heat energy to move through them easily are called non-conductors or insulators.
How far are we from the sun?
92.6 million miles away from the sun.
How longs does the sun’s heat and light take to reach earth?
8 minutes and 20 seconds (150,000,000 kilometers 300,000 km per second = 500 seconds.)
