how does it present?
3 or more in the last 12 moths or 1 in the last 6 months
- aggression to people or animals
- destruction of property
- deceitfulnessss or theft
- serious violation of rules
(tend to be in court and breaking the law)
what are the subtypes?
mild to moderate
–> challenging kids but restricted to the family environment
severe
–> unsocialised (violent and criminal)
–> socialised (smarter and can get away with more)
what co-morbidities are there? (7)

environmental (difficult to raise, clash of temperament, parenting)
what family issues can be related?
families with mental illness

single parent families (not good enough or not finical enough to spend quality time with kids)
what intra-family issues are related?
lack of
- house rules
- clarity of behaviour
- inconsistent responses (good cop bad cop)
- techniques to deal with crises
- supervision
treatment
parent training (11 this does the best but younger kids responds better to an authority figure.
medication (for impulsivity and aggressive behaviour –> risperidone (atypical antipsychotic)
or treat co-morbid (ADHD & depression)
is ADHD genetic?
60% more likely if offspring
15% more likely if a sibling
but a combo of genetic and environmental
