Condensate System Flashcards
- Explain the dual function of the Hot Well Level Controller.
Hot Well Level Controller is controlling both the “condensate make-up valves” and the “hot well level control valve”
At 50% demand both the “make up” and “hot well level control” valves are closed
Above (Right of) 50% demand the “make up” valve is open and adding condensate to the hot well to maintain set point
Below (Left of) 50% demand the “hot well level control” valve is open and sending condensate from the hot well to the condensate storage tanks to maintain set point
- What is the reason for the condensate recirculation valve?
The condensate recirc valve ensures flow through the air ejector and the gland steam condenser to prevent overheating of the condensate pumps or tube damage during trips, low loads, start-ups and shutdowns.
- What controls D.A. level?
Condensate booster pumps (to set point) DA Dump (high DA level)
- What controls Hot well level?
Dual function hotwell level controller.
- Name the permits that have to be met in order to reset the low suction lock out.
Suction pressure at booster pumps has to be H1-12.5 psi and H2/H3-10.2 psi and heater level reset.
- What screen would you look at to determine what the suction pressure is at the idle condensate booster pump?

D.A Level Page
- When does the D.A. dump open?
High level in the DA or anytime the WIPS system is activated
- What keeps the condensate system from lagging behind during a load change?
1st stage pressure anticipation signal
- Describe the procedure of putting the condensate system in service.
- Inform Nichols that we are going to begin filling boiler and make sure condensate tanks are full
- Have plant operator check condensate system for proper valving
- Fill Hotwell through condensate makeup valve to +7 and place valve in auto to maintain level
- Have plant operator check condensate pump to be started w discharge closed, S/R on idle pump in safe
- Place condensate recirc valve in manual and open 25%, DA dump in auto and DA recirc in manual and open 25%
- Unlock breaker for condensate pump to be started, observe pump graphic when starting, start pump and have plant operator open discharge slowly
- If unit has been acidized, have lab operator add I gal of hydrazine and begin pumping
- Have plant operator check condensate booster pump, ensure fluid drive is in manual and at min, when suction pressure reaches H1-12.5-H2/H3- 10.2psi reset heater level and low suction lockouts
- While observing graphic start pump, observe amps and increase pump speed from min to ensure lubrication of the Kingsbury bearing, watch Hotwell level to make sure proper level is maintained
- Condensate transfer pumps may also be used to help backfill the system.
