When does an additional permanent concussion sub occur?
When a player with suspected/confirmed concussion is subbed and doesn’t take any further part in the match
It doesn’t count as a ‘normal’ sub
How many concussion subs does a team have? How does it work?

A concussion sub can be made regardless of how many normal subs have been used
The concussion sub can be a player who has previously been subbed at any time
The opposing team has the option to use an additional substitute for any reason when a team uses a concussion sub
When can a concussion sub be used?
- immediately after a concussion occurs/ is suspected
- after an on or off field assessment
- at any time, including when a player has been assessed and returned to the FOP
How do you record a concussion sub?
Use a sub card of a different colour
Can a concussion sub come back to take part in any part of the game (inc. penalties)?
No - send for medical assessment
What happens if a team makes a normal sub at the same time as a concussion sub?
It counts as a normal sub
Can the referee decide on whether a player counts for concussion sub?
No
