What is society?
way ppl organise themselves that link themselves to form a society
within and between these group, pattern of interaction contribute to unique CULTURES
What is culture?
the values, laws, beliefs, arts that bind society together. E.g language, religion, literature
Dynamic (always changing)
These way of thinking, feeling and behaving give each SOCIETY its coherence, identity and distinct way of life
What is environment?
physical setting aswell as social and psychological environment
societies learn to adapt and cope with variety of physicla enviro.
Present societies with both opportunities and constraints
Development of indivi attitudes to enviro can reflect SOCIETY’s shared values (culture)
What is persons?
indivi shaped by their S + C
creates a social and cultural identity and learn to communicate and interact with other persons
identity achieved by interaction in micro, meso, macro levels of society
Everyone unique, that develops in a social, environmental settings in which influence by other persons and groups.
What is time?
constant in all society and cultures
measured in past, present and future
indicator of continuity and change
Power?
ability to influence/persuade others to follow a course of action or POV they would otherwise not follow
important to initiate or prevent change
used in all worlds
Authority
sub type of power
accepted right to make decisions and legitimate use of power.
important for decision making and initiating change and maintaining continuity.
eg, micro- parents
macro= politicians
Eg, police have authority to act in certain scenarios but if overstep that authority by acting in illegal manner results in abuse of power.
Gender?
socially constructed differences between men and women. Not the physical or biological difference, but the value society gives on these differences
also refers to identities and stereotypes of masculinity and femininity, and sexual division of labour.
eg, female=quiet, sensitive, male= boistours and tought. Not based on facts but having meaning cause society gives it one
Identity?
sense of self
can be viewed from personal, social and cultural level
formed over period of time, results from interactions in ur worlds (MMM).
contributing factors may be gender, sexual preference, ethnicity, beliefs
Technology?
tools that makes tasks easier, enhancing natural ability of persons to perform tasks
eg. internet(communication of info) and robotics (production of goods)
catalyst for change in society
Globalisation?
process of intergration and sharinf of ideas, goods, service, culture etc between countries
asissted by tech/media, increasing consiousness of world as single place/global village
