How can physical characteristics change?
Long time scale: rivers migrate
Short time scales: volcano eruptions
How do human characteristics change over time?
Long time scale: new people are born old people die.
Short time scale: migration
How do flows change over time?
Flow of money could change when a factory closes or opens.
What is an insider?
Someone who is familiar with a place and feels welcome. Eg: they feel they belong there and share the same values.
What is an outsider?
Someone who feels unwelcome and excluded from a place. Eg: international immigrants who don’t share the same values as the host country may feel like outsiders.
Give an example of shared identity at a local scale.
Individuals from a village sharing positive sense of that village.
Give an example of shared identity at a regional scale.
The individuals from a region sharing an accent.
Give an example of shared identity at a national scale.
Individuals of a nation sharing a language, religion or love for their country.
What factors can make a person feel like an insider or an outsider?

What are the 2 types of sense of place?
-Experienced place
-Media place
Define experienced place.
Places that people have spent time in. Their experience, such as what they see and who they meet, shape their sense of place.
Define media place.
Places that people have not been to but have created a sense of place through its depiction in the media (books, art and film).
What is a near place and a far place?
Near is geographically near to where someone lives and far is distant from where a person lives.
