Concept 3 Flashcards
• The sequential events of the cell cycle are directed
• like a clock
• regulated by both internal and external controls
Cell cycle control system
Do not respond normally to body’s control mechanism
Cancer cell
•Where the cell cycle stops
• until a go ahead signal is received
Checkpoint
Switching into nondividing state if the cell does not receive the go ahead signal is called as
G0
•Invade surrounding tissues and can metastasize
• exports cancer cells to other parts of the body
Malignant tumors
Explain the process of the cell cycle control system
For many cell, G1 seems to be the most important because if a cell receives a go-ahead signal at the G1 checkpoint, it will usually complete the S, G2, and M phase but if the cells does not receive a go-ahead signal, it will exit the cycle then switching into a nondividing state called as the G0.
What are the reason why cancer cell may not need a growth factors to grow and divide?
• they may make their own growth factor
• they may convey a growth factor signals without the presence of the growth factor
• they may have an abnormal cell cycle control system
Abnormal cell remains at the original site
Benign tumor
