Hardware – the parts of the computer system you can touch
Software – supplies the instructions that tell the hardware what to do

by supplying
your username or user-ID and a password
What is the motherboard?
Circuit board containing cpu and memory chips as well as connecting circuitry to enable other devices to be controlled by the computer
What is the main memory?
Chips inside the computer which are used to store programs and data which are currently being used
