What does CPU stand for?
central processing unit
What is the CPU often referred to as?
The Brain of the computer
Is a CPU a microprocessor?
Yes
What does a CPU do?
It process data and completes tasks given by the user. For example if you ask the computer to print something the CPU will instruct the printer to do it.
How many tasks can a CPU do at a time?
Only one.
What does a CPU used to control how much time is given to each task?
it uses a quartz clock.
What are the components that the CPU has?
ALI
Control unit.
lAS
Register.
What is the acrunim for arithmetic logic unit.
ALU.
What does the ALU do?
It handles Arithmetic and logic operations.
What are the types of arithmetic operations it can do?
Add.
Subtract.
Muntiply.
Divide.
What does the control unit do?
It manages how data is processed by the CPU. As well as how the CPU and other components communicate. It excutes all instructions provided by the programs. It informs the ALU, IAS and input devices how respond to the instructions from programs.
What does IAS stand for?
Immediate Access Store.
What does IAS stand for?
Immediate Access Store.
Where is dataa stored?
In the random access memory chip.
What does each memory location have assigned to it?
A unique address.
