- Read through the passage quickly
To get an overview or general picture, try to visualize what you are reading to focus and read for meaning
Take note of :LET GOED OP NA
The title gives clue to the contents and intention of the passage, the write helps you identify the era, style and subject and the conclusion usually ties up the intention of the author.
What questions should you ask?
Wie (who) is the writer (skrywer) en characters(karakters))?
Wat(what) is the main idea(hoofidee)
Waar(where) does it take place?
Setting(agtergrond)
Wanneer(when? Tyd, datum and era)
Hoekom(why? Intention-bedoeling)
Hoe(how? Language devices taalgebruik)
Read through the comprehension questions (vrae)
Gives you clues (leidrade) leading to answers in the passage.
The first sentence
Often the key sentence (sleutelsin)
Each question contains a question word and key word or idea
Underline this
Try to remember this fact near
The beginning, middle and end of the passage
Search mode
Glance down the centre of the paragraph to find the sentence containing the key word or idea by reading the whole sentence first to obtain a complete picture
Don’t copy directly from the text
But refer to it to avoid careless factual or spelling mistakes.
Answering techniques
How should the answer be written
Avoid starting sentences with conjunctions(voegwoorde)
Mark allocation indicates the number of points (feite)
Numbering corresponds
Each answer on a new line
When quoting, enclose the quote with inverted commas
