Components of an extension cord and electrical tools Flashcards
What are pliers?
They are used for holding objects firmly.
Developed from tongs that used to handle hot metals in Bronze Age Europe
These are both cutting and holding pliers used by artisans, jewelry, designers, electricians to bend, re-position, and snip wire.
Long Nose Pliers
What is a Screw Driver?
It is a tool, manual or powered for turning or removing screws.
It is also known as VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter)
It is an electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit.
Multi-Tester
What are Electrical gloves?
These are required when working in a low and high voltage apllications
Name the common electrical tools
- Pliers
- Long Nose Pliers
- Multi-Tester
- Electrical Gloves
- Screw Driver
This provides power for devices with cables that can’t reach any nearby electrical outlets.
Extension Cord
What else can you call an extension cord?
power extender/drop cord/extension lead
It is a length of flexible electrical power cable with a plug on one end and one or more sockets on the other end.
Extension Cord
What ae the components of an extension?
Electrical Socket
Electrical Plugs
Electrical Wire
It is an electrical outlet or receptacle that connects an electrical device to an electricity supply.
Electrical Socket
What is an Electrical Plug?
These are devices that allow electricity operated equipment to be connected to the primary alternating current (AC) power supply in a building.
It is a single, usually cylindrical, flexible strand or rod of metal
They are used to bear mechanical loads or electricity and telecommunications signals.
Wire
What are the 11 steps in creating an extension cord?
- Prepare the tools and materials needed and place them in a flat surface. It is advisable to have a work table.
- Prepare the receptacle, plug, wire, pliers, long nose, and screw driver.
- Wear Electrical gloves
- Get the 4-meter electrical wire and hold it in one end. Measure at least 2 inches from the tip. Find the line that divides the wire and divide it into 2 parts.
- Peel both parts using pliers and long nose.
- Do the same on the other end. Set the wire aside.
- Get the receptacle and remove the screws outside and inside as well.
- Get the plug and remove the screws outside and inside as well.
- Get the peeled wire and straighten both parts first. Make sure that both parts are arranged one over the other.
- Wrap the left part to a screw clockwise. Wrap the right part to a screw counterclockwise.
- Do the same to the receptacle
