What is site and why is it significant?
Site is the location or land in which a place is built. Londons site is significant as it is located central south of the uk. Londinium was specifically built there for strategic reasons.
What is situation and why is it significant to London?
Situation is the location of a place in relation to other places for example londons location within the uk. London is very close to Europe making trading very easy.
The cities structure - the CBD
The central business district is the oldest part of the city and its function is to home large business HQ’s and large offices. Building density is high and buildings are build upwards instead of sideways. Environmental quality is quite poor within the cbd as there is lots of air pollution.
The cities structure - the inner city
The inner city was originally an old manufacturing industrial are but now is a fairly run down area with many shut down factories. Most areas such as hackney are run down but many are being improved such as Notting hill.
The cities structure - the suburbs
Most families move to live in the suburbs as houses are larger and there are good quality services around the suburbs such as leisure centres and shopping facilities. Most buildings were built in the early 1900’s.
The cities structure - the urban rural fringe
This is where city meets countryside. Most houses built in late 20th century and environmental quality is often quite good.
Why is London a popular destination for migrants?
London is a popular migration place because there is a good lifestyle in London and there is lots of working opportunities.
Why do the older population choose to live in the suburbs?
Most of the older population choose to live in the suburbs as lifestyle is usually better and houses and larger and nicer.
