Competition, biotic & abiotic factors Flashcards
What is a habitat?
A place where an organism lives.
Give one example of an abiotic factor.
Moisture, temperature, light, wind
Give one example of a biotic factor
Food, pathogens, competition, new predators
What 4 things do plants compete for?
Light, water, minerals, space
What 4 things do animals compete for?
Food, water, territory, mates
What is a community?
All of the organisms living in an ecosystem
Name an adaptation small plants found in woodlands have?
Grow and flower very early in the year as plenty of light will reach them due to the bare branches of the trees.
Many plants use the wind to help them spread their seeds as far as possible. How are they adapted for this?
They produce fruits or seed specially adapted for flight. Some plants use explosive seed pods.
