Have them point to letters as they are said, make sounds associated with letters or sing the alphabet song.

Ask them to write all the letters in a set, such as all the consonants, then vowels, and lastly letter combinations.

Word Analysis methods
Dictionary use
Graphic organizers that decode prefixes, roots & suffixes
Daily activities that focus on phonology, or systematic study of sounds in words such as spelling, rhyme and vowel patterns.
Daily phonemes activities include spelling, rhyming, sight word activities.
Word Identification
Synonymous with decoding & word recognition and is made up of semantics.
Word Identification methods
Identify connotative & denotative meaning of words
Activities to find morphemes to match parts of words: auto-mobile, television.
Use Bingo, flashcards, and matching activities
Vocabularies can be developed:
Indirectly: When students interact daily with oral language, listen to adults read to them, and read at length on their own.
Directly:When students are explicitly, systematically taught both individual words and word-learning strategies.
