Interpretation
Understands & interprets. Describe illustrators choice of style, elements and media & how these show or add to the text. Interpret important events and ideas found on maps, charts, graphics, videos, or technology presentations. Use media to compare ideas and points of view.
Analysis
Analyzes and critiques. Interpret & evaluate the ways visual image makers represent meaning. Compare & contrast print, visual, and electronic media.
Production
Creates. Select, organize, and produce visuals to complement and extend meanings. Produce communications using technology, such as developing class newspapers, multimedia reports, or video reports.
Media literacy
The informed, critical understanding of media and the ability to deconstruct media messages to determine hidden meanings & to evaluate the message’s effectiveness.
Print Media
Text and illustrations that are printed. Includes: Newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, fliers, advertisements, books.
Visual Media
Way to spread ideas with the aid of pictures. Means of communication using visual effects and meant to reach a large # of people in a short amount of time. Includes: TV, newspapers, magazines, billboards.
Electronic Media
Media presented through technology. Includes: Video recordings, audio recordings, multimedia presentations, slide presentations, CD-ROM content, Internet/online content, digital media.
Visual Literacy
the way we use our senses and perceive the world. The ability to identify the visual and tactile qualities of the environment. The development of this is fundamental to learning. Allows students to: interpret symbols and understand symbolism. Communicate ideas more effectively, comprehend visual images and messages. Visually analyze their environment.
Elements of Art
Line, Shape, Form, texture, color, value, space.
Line
Most basic element of art. take on many forms including horizontal, straight, diagonal, vertical, zigzag, curved & wavy. Create the underlying concepts and boundaries for works of art.
Shape
Create the form for objects in art. Include circles,triangles, organic shapes, geometric shapes, rectangles, symbols & letters, ovals, squares and diamonds.
Form
three-dimensional with the addition of geometric figures. Add depth and perspective to art. Includes geometric shapes, cones, spheres, pyramids and triangular prisms, rectangular prisms, cubes, cylinders, and organic forms.
Texture
Brings clarity and depth to art. May be soft, smooth, rough, bumpy or silky.
Color
Used in 3 ways: to describe things, as a symbol, to convey feelings or set the mood.
