Independent Reading Level
Student is able to understand almost all of the words in the text.
Instructional Reading Level
Student does not know about 2 or 5 out of 100 words.
Frustration Reading Level
Student does not know 10 or more words out of 100 words.

Criterion-Referenced Exam
Assesses student’ knowledge of certain standards. Does not compare students’ results to how other students performed.
Norm-Referenced Exam
Compare students’ scores to their peers’ scores, usually given as a percentile comparing that test-taker to his/her peers.

Evaluative Reading Comprehension
What the text shows or tells us about our world or about people in general.
Wide Reading
Students read a wide variety of texts.
