-can be a group of people who live in the same area
-described by a specific area, within a defined geographical area, with the same governing boundaries is a geopolitical community
-phenomenologic communities: common interests/goals who have interpersonal and intrapersonal connections – identify what activities, structures, and outcomes are important to them (homeless people, disable people)
-communities of solution: formed by an aggregate specifically to address health concerns within a particular area

epidemiological approach
-helps identify patterns of health and social inequity and can be used to determine trends in three ways: (1) by describing the disease or disability, (2) by determining relationships that can predict health or health disparities, and (3) by developing and testing interventions.
