What is community?
A ‘community’ refers
to the people living in
one geographical
area.
It may also refer to a group of
people who have similar goals,
interests and values such
as a school.
State some qualities of a community
Members of a community have a sense of trust, belonging, safety, and they care for each other.
State a benefit of community life
A community must be encouraging. We all make mistakes and need people to correct and encourage us.
It is important for us to surround ourselves with the right people.
Social Interaction. We are social beings who need the company of others.
Within a community, there are always opportunities for interaction and having fun.
Cooperation. Some tasks may be too great to be done alone. As part of a community, we depend on others who are skilled in various areas for help.
Identity Formation
Being a member of a community allows Individuals to develop their identity and a sense of belonging.
This happens as they interact with others and share experiences.
What is the role of the community?
The role of the community is to provide a safe environment for its members. This is not always the case as certain factors may disrupt community life.
Factors that Negatively Impact a Community
Some negative factors that may impact my community are:
Littering
Acts of violence
Bullying
Theft
Gossip
What is the individual’s role in the community
Community members have an individual and collective responsibility to influence their environments and each other positively.
