Communication in Defision-Making and Problem-Solving Flashcards
Teams Definition
- It is a small group.
- Tends to be project oriented.
- Teams have performance standards (leaders are responsible for guiding members through all stages of a project and setting expectations).
- Abilities of team members are 1.) Interdependent but 2.) Not Redundant.
System 1: Fast and Intuitive
- Operates automatically and quickly, with little or no effort - things you don’t have to think about (brushing teeth).
- Intuitive (relies on heuristics and patterns).
- Effortless (handles routine and repetitive decisions).
- Emotional Influence (reacts based on gut feelings and emotions).
Strengths: useful for quick decisions in familiar situations, effective for recognizing patterns.
Weaknesses: prone to biases (anchoring, availability, representativeness), can lead to errors in judgement.
System 2: Slow and Analytical
Engages in effortful thinking when decisions require more analysis.
Rational: employs logic, critical thinking, analysis.
Effortful: requires cognitive resources and time.
Conscious Oversight: monitors and evaluates system one outputs.
Strengths: crucial for solving complex problems and making high stakes decisions, reduces the influence of cognitive biases when fully engaged.
Weaknesses: limited by cognitive capacity (can become fatigued), may be avoided if individuals default to system 1 to save effort.
Premortem
What could go wrong.
Tame problems
Issues with clear solutions.
Wicked problems
Complex issues that are difficult or impossible to solve due to incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements.
