What is communication?
Communication is the process of transferring info from the sender to the receiver.
What are the 5 elements of communication?
Sender
Message
Channel/medium
Receiver
Feedback
Explain the communication process from the sender’s perspective.
The sender will Conceptualize an idea they want to convey, they must Encode a way the message will be understandable for the receiver. After that the sender should Select a channel that is the best for the receiver, then finally the sender should Transmit the message to the receiver.
Explain the communication process from the receiver’s perspective.
When the receiver gets the message they will need to Decode the massage based on their past experiences. This helps the receiver to interpret and give meaning to the message. Finally the receiver has to give feedback based on their decoding.
Define a barrier to communication
A barrier to communication is anything that affects the understanding of the massage. It is also said that noise is anything that creates a barrier to communication.
State and explain some examples of communication barriers.
Physical barriers: Literal noise, time, distance, bad network.
Language barriers: miscommunication, use of jargons, poor vocabulary.
Personal barriers: lack of confidence, stereotyping, arrogance, poor listening skills.
Define facilitators of communication.
Facilitators of communication aid the passing of info and therefore allow for neutral understanding.
State some examples of facilitators of communication.
Using an effective channel
Using appropriate language
Using additional prompts
Using legible handwriting
