fluent aphasia

A
  • word output and speech production functional - speech lacks substance
  • Wernicke’s: posterior superior tempral gyrus, comprehension impaired, impaired writing
  • conduction aphasia: impairment with repetition, word-finding difficulties

non-fluent aphasia

A
  • frequently in frontal lobe
  • poor word output and dysprosodic speech - impaired rhythm and inflection, poor articulation, effortful search for words
  • broca’s: most common, intact reading and auditory, frustaration, motor impairment
  • global: comprehension impaired

A
  • non-dysarthric and non-aphasic impairment of prosody and articulation of speech
  • verbal expression impaired secondary to deficits in motor planning
  • lesion adjacent to broca’s area
  • pt unable to intiate speech even through they understand task
