What good negotiation skills may include?
Agreeing your client’s objectives and negotiating strategy before the start of negotiations, detailed research and preparation, undertaking SWOT analysis, preparing your ‘win-win’ and fallback positions, deciding what points you can give on and what points are non-negotiable, understanding the other party’s position, creating a constructive environment for the negotiations, considering the method of communication, developing a partnership/collaborative approach, recognising the achievement of your best position for agreement, maintaining communication always, and walking away when you need to.
What are negotiation techniques?
Listen, explain opinion, open/closed questions, compromising, build relationships, summary for clarity, email, telephone, and face to face meeting.
How do you know if you are using the correct form of communication?
Adapting language depending on audience.
