FORMAT
Landscape of portrait format – the shape and structure of the design. Observe how the design has been
composed.
STYLE (technique, mood, what it looks like)
Describe what the design looks like – the mood of the design, determine what technique has been used to
create the design - photographic (edited) or illustration – describe the style eg. painterly, cartoon, realistic etc.
Sans serif typeface:
A typeface that has no serifs
Alignment of text:
Left aligned or flush left - the text is aligned along the left margin or gutter, also known as ragged right
Right aligned or flush right - the text is aligned along the right margin or gutter, also known as ragged left
Justified - text is aligned along the left margin, and letter- and word-spacing is adjusted so that the text falls
flush with the right margin, also known as full justification
Centered - text is aligned to neither the left nor right margin; there is an even gap at the end of each line.
Kern:
To adjust the white spaces between the characters. Large text needs to be kerned manually as the space
between the characters is more noticeable eg. in signage and on posters
Serif:
In a typeface, a counterstroke on letterforms, projecting from the ends of the main strokes.
Text wrap:
The spatial relationship between blocks of text and graphics, or between two blocks of text
Type Style:
Italic, Roman, Expanded, Narrow, Display font, Uppercase, Lowercase
Type weight / weighting: Bold, Light
