What was the ideological vision for life on the communes?
Mao believed communes brought China closer to the communist vision.
How was industrial and agricultural work to be organised? What were the advantages of this?
It would be organised based on the needs of the residents rather than work. This would increase production.
How was eating to be organised? What were the advantages?
Everyone would eat together in Mess Halls. Eating together would help develop revolutionary fervour.
How was childcare to be dealt with? What were the advantages of this?
Childcare would be provided with Creches and boarding schools. Mothers would not have to worry about childcare and both mother and child could be devoted to the communist regime.
How was life organised for grandparents? Advantages?
Grandparents would not longer need to care for their grandchildren and would be able to relax and spend their time in ‘Happy homes’ with other elderly people.
