The CCP were split between wanting China to change to Communism fast, or slow. Mao wanted to go fast, while Liu Shaoqi and other ‘gradualists’ wanted change to happen slower and more gradually.
Why were party cadres enthusiastic about collectivisation?
They wanted to demonstrate their loyalty to Mao and to educate their careers.
