Comms Fail Flashcards
If you have an ICS failure, how should control be handed between the seats?
Transfer control to the front cockpit - Rear seat waggles CC forward and aft, front seat repeats to acknowledge.
Transfer control to the rear cockpit - Rear waggles side to side, front seat repeats to acknowledge and then relinquishes control.
What does the audio control panel (ACP) INPH control?
The volume of the intercom
What does the ACP EMR/NRM control?
It is the audio amplifier bypass switch for use in the event of an audio amplifier failure.
NRM = Default position
EMR = Raw audio
EMR position bypasses the amplifier and provides raw audio (unamplified and no volume control) for COM 2 and aural warnings.
When selected, the ICS will become inoperative and COM 1 audio will be lost.
When would you select EMR on the ACP?
If you have an ICS failure or loss of audio.
Provides raw, unamplified audio on COM 2 and the aural warnings (lose COM 1 and ICS).
If you cannot communicate with ATC, what actions should you take?
In all scenarios squawk 7600, make all radio calls ‘blind’.
Can use speechless procedure.
VFR - Can recover normally with all calls ‘blind’. Land on a green flare.
IFR - ILS against the stream from Point X to CIRCLING MINIMA. Then position for the runway in use (TRC at the threshold). Land off of a green and make RT calls ‘blind’.
What does it mean when you have the ‘squashed bug’ appear on the UFCP when trying to operate a radio?
It is likely that the radio transceiver itself is U/S, or there is a failure within the IAC that is precluding use of the radios.
FMS STS/BIT page will assist diagnosis.
COM 2 squashed bug = Can try standby head. Make R/T as normal as if req. recover iaw the FOB.
