Batt and Gen Fail Flashcards
How will you recognise a Bat and Gen failure?
All MFDs, UFCP and HUD will go blank.
Critically - The trim indications will be dead and the Bat and Gen switches will be off.
What is the only Bus receiving power after a Bat + Gen failure?
AUX BATT Busbar
Bold face for Bat + Gen failure
How long will the BFI and V/UHF control head be powered for on the Aux Bat?
Approx. 30 mins
Minimise R/T to conserve power
What configuration considerations will you have with a Bat + Gen failure?
Will have to use the emergency landing gear extension. No gear down safe indications, therefore consider a gear inspection if you have time + good fuel state.
Fly on known power settings and attitudes. Vertical throttle approx. 35% TQ.
No flaps - If extended on the normal system prior to power loss they will retract.
May have emergency flaps if the OBOGS is not lost.
What engine control consideration must you have if the Bat + Gen have failed?
The PMU will be lost as it is on the FWD BAT BUS.
You will be in manual control of the FMU.
The mechanical governor now protects against prop overspeed and provides engine prop governing. Mishandling could lead to over temp/TQ.
How would you recover the aircraft if IMC?
Make ATC fully aware (COM 2) that you would like to transmit as little as possible to conserve power.
Short pattern recovery on the standby instrument.
Gear via the emergency system.
