Slip and grab hooks are used to pick up or pull loads. Sorting hooks or “shake-out hooks” are mainly used for picking up steel plate and other structural shapes.

All hoisting hooks should be attached to a chain swivel to avoid the stress of twisting while under load

Never place a load on the pin of the shackle as it could come undone. Never place a load on the sides of a shackle (cross-bow loading”) only on pin and the end.
