type of imaging that is capable of showing the body’s metabolism of certain substances or blood flow rates
skeletal scintigraphy
imaging type for checking internal structures using sound waves to create images
ultrasound (US)
procedure examining internal structures using sound waves to create images
x-ray
type of imaging that uses radiation; often used to evaluate bones or the lungs
BMP
basic metabolic panel; tests for electrolyte and glucose levels
CBC
complete blood count; tests te types and amounts of cells present in the blood
CBC w/dif
CBC with differential; gives more information about the types of cells present in the blood
CMP
complete metabolic panel; more detailed version of a BMP that focuses on organ health
culture
ordered from body fluids to test for growth of foreign organisms
ECG/EKG
electrocardiography; measures the electrical signals of the heart
FSBG
fingerstick blood glucose level
HbAIC (hemoglobin AIC)
test that indicates blood sugar control over the past 3 months; important in diabetes
PFT
pulmonary function tests; measure the function of the lungs
PT (protime)
prothrombin time, test concerning blood clotting ability
lipid panel
tests for cholesterol and triglyceride levels
TSH
thyroid stimulating hormone; tests thyroid health
UA
urinalysis; test for kidney health and signs of urinary tract infection
