Bilateral Tubal Ligation (BTL)
surgical procedure for sterilization in which Fallopian tubes are either blocked or cut to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus for implantation (having tubes tied)
cardiac catheterization
procedure used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular condition during which a flexible vessels to the heart
central line
a catheter placed into a large vein (internal jugular vein), chest (subclavian vein or axillary vein), or groin (femoral vein)
Cholecystectomy
surgical removal of the gallbladder
colectomy
surgical removal part or all of the large intestine
colostomy
surgical formation of an artificial anus by connecting the colon to an opening in the abdominal wall
coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
procedure used to create new pathways around narrowed or totally blocked coronary arteries to facilitate increase/improved blood flow
endotracheal intubation
a tube is inserted through the mouth down into the trachea (ET tube/ETT)
Funduscopic exam
a procedure that used a funduscope to look at the back of the eyes to examine veins, ocular pressure, and other components
Indwelling catheter
a catheter left in the bladder for a relatively long period of time for continual urine evacuation. May be inserted through the urethra or through a small incision in the abdominal wall
Laceration (lac) repair
a procedure to mend a tear of the skin or other tissue
Lithotripsy
the use of high-energy shock easy to disintegrate kidney stone that would not easily pass through the urethra naturally
Lumbar puncture
a diagnostic and at times therapeutic medical procedure. to collect CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) to confirm/exclude conditions such as meningitis and subarachnoid hemorrhage and diagnosis of other conditions. can be used to reduce increased intracranial pressure
ophthalmic exam
a procedural series of tests done to check the patient’s vision and health of the eyes, especially when the patient is having neurological deficits including blurry vision
paracentesis
a procedure that uses a needle to remove fluid from the abdomen either to analyze the fluid or to relieve pressure. the accumulation of fluid, called ascites, seeps out of organs. Ascites is most commonly due to cirrhosis, severe liver disease, or metastatic cancer
