Commitment & Satisfaction Flashcards
Judge & Kammeyer-Mueller
Annual Review of Psychology- Job attitudes
- cognition and affect are inextricably linked
- to properly get at the variance in job attitudes, and to capture the emotional content, ESM (experienced sampling methods) have been used which give us within and between person differences
Job satisfaction is an evaluative state that expresses contentment with, and positive feelings about, one’s job.
Riketta 2008 meta suggest stronger causal path from satisfaction to performance (than vice versa)
Org commitment is an individual’s psychological bond with the organization, as represented by an affective attachment to the org, internalization of values and goals, and a behavioral desire to put forth effort to support it
- –affective commitment appears to be the best facet to predict behaviors such as job performance
- –continuance and normative have been criticized as reflecting attitudes about staying or leaving but not about the organization specifically
AET- most commonly used theory for affect–>behavior, enabled us to look at more state-like behaviors like OCB or withdrawal based on affective responses
CSE correlates at a multiple r of .37 with job satisfaction (Judge & Bono 2001 meta)
Ilies et al. 2009
Overall satisfaction is positively relaated to OCB
Agreeableness and Conscientiousness is mediated by overall satisfaction to OCB
