Every year in Dundee on September 25th, the city’s war memorial shines to remember the 230 Dundonian soldiers who had died in the battle of Loos
McCrae’s battalion was remembered
A memorial for McCrae’s battalion was built near Tynecastle, the Hearts Football Stadium, in Edinburgh
Many Scots died during the war
74,000-110,000 Scots lost their lives during the war. One in 5 British deaths were Scottish
Scots had to come to terms with how many young men they lost during the war
Every town and village in Scotland built its own war memorial (eg. Bridge of Don war memorial on Ellon Rd.)
Gov ordered that death numbers stopped being printed in newspapers
too depressing and demoralising for Scots and hindered the war effort
