- Identify disorders of hearing and balance

- Help with speech and language disorders
- Swallowing/Feeding

What rules make up a language?
= Socially shared code to represent concepts
- rule-governed (grammar/ certain rules to construct a word)
- Generative (You can create an infinite amount of words, sentences, and utterances)
- Dynamic (Language always changes. Change is natural and expected to continue evolving)
What rules make up a speech?
= How we say the sounds; process of producing acoustic representations of language
- Articulation
- Fluency
- Voice
What do Speech Disorders affect?
= Affects production (articulation) Ex. May not be able to make the sound “tuh”
- Interruption of speech flow (fluency) ex. Stuttering
- Absence of voice quality (voice) ex. Complications with the voice
What do language disorders affect?
affects comprehension and use (a native speaker having trouble speaking their 1st language)
What do hearing disorders affect?
Affects the auditory system (hearing-related or ear related)
