Q

What is a laminate? Give an example of a laminate.

A

A laminated fabric is made up of two or more layers. The layers are held together with adhesive or heat-set fibres.

Gore-Tex is a thin membrane that is often laminated to create a thicker, stronger material. This material is then used for outdoor wear.

Q

What is interfacing? What are its benefits?

A

Interfacing is a non-woven fabric which is sewn or stuck with adhesive to areas of a garment. It is commonly used on collars, cuffs, waistbands, and shirt plackets.

It stiffens the fabric, preventing it from stretching, sagging, or fraying.
