Combined science term 1 Flashcards
What are transverse waves?
Transverse waves oscillate perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer of the waves. All electromagnetic waves are transverse.
What is frequency?
Frequency is the number of waves passing any point each second.
What are longitudinal waves?
Longitudinal waves oscillate parallel towards the direction of energy transfer of the waves. Sound waves are longitudinal.
How do you calculate wave speed?
Wave speed= frequency x wavelength.
What is the amplitude?
A height of the peak of the trough from the line.
What is refraction?
It is the change in direction of waves caused by a change in their speed when they cross a boundry between one medium and another.
why are noble gases so unreactive?
Their very stable electron arrangements.
What does the group number in the periodic table equal to?
The number of electrons in the outermost shell.
What does the number of electrons in its outermost shell determine?
It’s chemical properties.
