If they raise too few hands and play straightforwardly…
You should widen your calling range based on what three factors?

What cards should you 3 bet with?

A

Widen your calling range based on
—When stacks are larger
—You expect to get 3 bet less often
—If they carelessly pay off more postflop

You can typically 3 bet w AA and KK only.

Q

Vs overly tight raises preflop (who play straightforwardly)

Is it worth bluffing these players preflop?

If thry make a larger than normal raise, what should we no longer play?

A

It is not worth bluffing these players preflop as they will not fold often enough.

If they make a larger raise, dont play 1-gappers , the weaker connectors, or K9s/Q9s

Q

Vs tight preflop raisers who play straightforwardly…

What hands should you play when thry make a gigantic raise ?

Which hands should you not play?

What should you remember about pots?

A

Against a gigantic raise, you only want to be playing the very best hands.
3 bet AA and KK only, call JJ, QQ, Ako ,AKs.

Your implied odds are terrible so do NOT play suited connectors or other implied odds hands.

Remember…these tend to put alot of money in the pot when they have good hands, but refrain when they do not. Big pot, big hand.

Q

Combating a LOOSE , PASSIVE raise preflop

These tend to play …?

How do you combat them?

If they 4 bet..?

A

These tend to play …Axo and 1 gappers

Combat this by either
— raising with a wide range
— call with a wide range and be aggressive postflop

If they 4 bet, they’re only doing it with the very best of premium hands.

Q

Facing an overly passive loose raiser

Some more experienced loose passive players will…?

What should we do against them?
What is your plan ?

A

Some more experienced loose passive players will…play well against a wide 3 bet.

Against them, call with a wide range and see how they play postflop.

The plan is to try to steal the pot post flop on various boards that are good for your range and bad for theirs.

Q

Facing an overly loose passive raiser

What should you look to do if they are a calling station postflop?

When should you apply pressure?

And in other circumstsnces?

A

If they are a calling ststion post flop, look to make a good hand and then pile in the money.

Apply pressure if they will fold.

If they dont fold, then build big pots when you have them in bad shape…and restrict the pot to a small size when you dont.

Q

Combating a maniac or bad lag.

What should you do when you have a strong hand and they raise?

When should you bluff?

A

If they raise when you have a strong hand, consider how they will react to a 3 bet.
You want them to keep giving you money if you are strong,

If they tend to fold to 3 bets, consider a bluff 3 bet.

Q

When your opponents dont fold to aggression

What sort of ranges should you raise with?

What is the best way to profit from them

A

Raise with linear ranges

Your profit comes from having value hands , so start with a stronger range than your opponent.

Q

When is a good time to use a LINEAR range?

What is a linear ranges weakness?

A

A linear 3 betting range is a strong strategy when OOP because they will be more willing to call IP- meaning your raising range may be stronger than (or as strong as) their calling range .

Its weakness is that your calling range will be weak as you have 3 bet your best hands.

Q

When is a good time to use a POLARISED 3 betting range?

Is it better IP or OOP?

A

A polarised 3 betting range is an excellent strategy when you do not expect your opponent to call too often - i.e. when they will typically 4 bet or fold.
This will often be the case when you are IP and they are short stacked…very common in tournaments.

This should usually be your default strategy unless you are OOP.
