What range does Jonathan recommend here, and why?

A

Jonathan recommends calling with the same range as in middle position.

You are out of position and the BB might 3 bet, so you want your range to be fairly tight.

Q

Facing a MP raise, you are in MP, 50+ bb

If you choose to 3 bet. What size raise should you use?

What should you do if your 3 bet is called

A

If you choose to 3 bet, you want to raise to 3x their bet.

If you get called, be prepared to make a 50% pot c-bet on most flops, especially if your opponent plays straightforwardly.

Q

Facing a MP raise and you are in the SB ,50+BB

What should you consider, and how does this affect your strategy?

A

Consider how the BB will play…
…if they are poor and will call when you do, you need to call with a different range than if they will squeeze or fold,
….however,if he is competent, use the same range as if you were in MP.

How big should your 3 bet be from the small blind?

Why is this?

A

If you cbet you want to raise to 4x their bet, as you are OOp

This is to discoursge calls…but as you’ll be raising with a strong range, you dont mind if they do call.

Q

Facing a LP raise, you are in the SB , 50+ BB

What should you do with your range if you expect to be called alot of the time?

What size of 3 bet should you use?

A

You can put all of your calling hands into the 3 bet range to make a solid linear raising rangr - this is good if you expect to be called most of the time.

OOP. You can expect them to call more often, so 3 bet s bit bigger, to 4x

Q

Facing a late position raise ,you in sb, at 50 bb+

What is your play dependent on?

If you want to play with them then…?

If you want the pot heads up with the raiser then…?

A

How you play will be dependent on how good the BB is, and how they will react.

If you want to play a hand with thr BB becUse they are poor, then call with a wide range.

If you want to play heads up with the raiser, use a 3 bet strategy.

Q

What should you do if the players in the blinds are poor players?

A

If the players in the blinds are poor, you should call with the suited connectors that might otherwise “3 bet or fold”

This is because the errors the blinds will make will be more profitable than the margin you get from getting them to fold.

Q

Facning a LP raise, you are in late position, 50bb+

While you can 3 bet with AXo a fair amount of the time, why should you not 3 bet too often with it ?

Dont…?

A

If you 3 brt too often with AXo your opponent s will start calling or 4 betting, which is not good,

If they are cslling too often, dont 3 bet bluff with AXo, and use less bluffs in general.

Q

When raised from LP at 50 bb+, and you are in late position

Remember. The raiser may be aware…?

What should you do when against late position raises in general ?

A

Remember, the raiser may be aware that a 3 bet is possible and constructing their range accordingly,

When you are in LP against late position riases, you should apply pressure as their ranges will be too wide.

Q

When facing an Ep raise and you are in EP, 50+ bb

What will they rarely do?

Therefore, you should not…?

As stack sizes shrink…?

A

Because an eo raiser has a string range, they will rarely fold to agression

Therefore you do not want to have a 3 betting range. This protects your calling range.

As stack sizes shrink, rely less on the smaller suited AXs and connectors, as they rely on implied odds

17
Q

Facing a raise oreflop at 50+bb

Sometimes a 3 bet bluff with blockers and/or hands that flop well is called for.

When would you use blockers?

When would you use hands that flop well (like connectors)?

A

Use blockers when you think they will “4 bet or fold”.

Use connectors & “flop wells” when you expect them to call.

18
Q

Facing a riase, 50bb+

As long as you’re all deep stacked and you are ip, you can call with…?

A

As long as you’re all deep stacked and you are ip, you can call with all pairs and decent suited connectors almost every time, due to implied odds.

19
Q

Facing a raise in general…

What might be a useful choice to include when constructing a polarised 3 betting range?

But remember…?

A

Marginal suited connectors like 97s and 86s can sometimes be good 3 bet bluffs, …these flop ok, and your opponent may not expect them.

….but remember, if you only flop a moderate top pair, you may be behind or dominated- big hand big pot /small hand, small pot !

20
Q

When developing a range in LP what could you consider 3 betting with?

Why?

But..?

A

Consider including marginal suited connectors like 97s and 86s..

Thry fall below your opponents raising range so are unlikely to be dominated

But beware if you flop a marginal pair with them …big hand big pot/ small hand, small pot.

21
Q

At deep stacks, when you 3 bet facing a raise, where does the majority of your profit come from

A

The majority of it comes when they fold either preflop or to your cbet.

22
Q

If your opponent pfr’s and then declines to c-bet

What does this possibly indicate they have ?

What should you concentrate on?
How should you react?

A

If your opponent declines to c-bet, then in theory they have either Marginal or Junk hands.

You will not get much/any value from the junk, so you should concentrate on the marginal hands.

Try to extract 3 streets of value from the marginal hands, but dont bet so big that they fold.
