Contrasting colours sit directly across or opposite the colour wheel. These colours used together appear vibrant and vivid. Many companies use contrasting colours in their branding to grab the attention of customers.

What are Warm and Cool Colours
The colour wheel is split between warm and cool colours. On one side are colours associated with warmth and on the other, colours associated with cold. Cool colours create a calm, relaxed mood, whereas warm colours create energy, and enthusiasm.
What are Advancing and Receding Colours
Warm colours, such as reds, yellows, and oranges, are considered to advance and appear to come forward in a composition, making elements stand out. In contrast, cool colours, such as blues, greens, and violets, are considered to recede and appear to move back in a composition, making elements appear smaller or less noticeable.
Why use advancing or receding colours
In design, the use of advancing and receding colours can be used to draw attention to specific elements or to create a sense of depth and dimension.
