3 Ways to lower a colors intensity
- Mix 2 complementary colors
- Add White (Tint)
- Add Black (Shade)
Complementary colors Definition
The 2 colors that are opposite on the color wheel
Primary Colors
The Colors that all other colors come from by mixing
Example: Red, Yellow, Blue
Secondary colors
The colors that made from mixing 2 primary colors together
3 Secondary colors
Green, Purple, Orange
Tertiary color Definition
When a primary and secondary color beside it are mixed together.
Tertiary color examples
Turquoise, Yellow-Orange, Orange-Red
Simultaneous Contrast
When 2 complementary colors are placed beside each other
Cool Colors
Colors that remind you of the cold and recede (Go back) when doing artwork. (Blue, Green, Purple)
Warm Colors
Colors that remind you of the warmth or fire and come forward when doing artwork (Red, Yellow, Orange)
Chromatic Black
Comes when mixing red and green together without any black pigment
Analogous Colors
Groups of colors beside each other on the color wheel and always share the same common color.
Netural Color
Colors that are not found on the color wheel
Beige, Brown, Black, White
