College Terms Week 7 Flashcards
Financial awards that are usually distributed by a college or university’s financial aid office. These awards may be need-based, which are the most prevalent, or merit-based, which may be awarded based on excellence in academics, leadership, volunteerism, athletic ability, or special talent. They do not require repayment.
Grants/Scholarships
On-campus sororities and fraternities. These organizations often have great impact on the campus social life of a college or university. Their names are based on letters from the Greek alphabet.
Greek Life
An undergraduate student who takes six credit hours per semester.
Half-Time
Students who owe fees or fail to return materials to the institution will have a financial hold (or encumbrance) placed on their record. The hold must be resolved before a student is permitted to register for further classes. Students should see an adviser or financial aid counselor if a hold is placed on their account.
Hold
A program that offers a more enriching educational experience. Classes in the Honors Program of a college or university often include smaller class size, custom-designed courses, mentoring, enriched individualized learning, hands-on research, and publishing opportunities. Honors programs at large schools are a great opportunity for students to receive an Ivy League-like education at a reduced cost.
