International Causes of the Hungarian Uprising
- Khruschev's destalinisation led to prosperity amongst some satellite states - cominform was abolished - The 1956 uprising in Poland wasn't condemned as they wanted to run an independent COMMUNIST state.

- The brutal stalinist Rakosi was head of hungary, his regime was unpopular amongst hungarians - Khruschev allowed for the more liberal Imre Nagy to replace him - In november 1956, Nagy announced the hungarian withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact

- If hungary were allowed to leave, other countries may follow suit - to make an example of hungary - Khruschev was keen to show that his role as head of state was not to be underestimated

-The US had been made to look weak and incompetent, they did not carry through with the Truman Doctrine despite request from hungary. -khruschev proved not to be a liability The us called this an example of Soviet Imperialism -The UN attempted to interceed but nothing came of it
