why were there disagreements at Potsdam
1) since Yalta, where Stalin agreed there would be free elections, Stalin has occupied the territory - Stalin lies
2) new USA president - Truman more aggressive. Announces A bomb trial

Why was the Truman doctrine significant
Accepting communism - US prepared to send money and aid to any country. He accepted that east was communist but wanted to stop it spreading
Widespread consequences - leads to nato. USA gave 400 million to turkey and Greece
Communist side was defeated in Greece
Why the Marshall plan?
1) prevent spread of communism
2) restoring economies- wanted to create trading opportunities for us in the future
Gave 13 billion
Why was Berlin a source of tension?
1) split into four sectors - USSR felt that a stronger g would pose a threat. Allies wanted g as a future ally
2) different govts- USSR were communist and had introduced a communist government into east Germany
Allies were capitalist
