What may be used as cold applicationList 5 methods of cold application
as a cold compress
ice bag or ice collar
ice sheet
cold sponge bath
alcohol sponge bath
List 10 reasons for applying cold
for head injury
for sprains and strains

What is the primary purpose of nursing care of haemorrhage
to stop the bleeding and replace blood volume
Why is alcohol sponging done ?
Alcohol evporates at a faster temperature than water so once 70% alcohol is added with cold water it will remove heat from the surface. It allows for a less violent response from the patient and the bed is less likely to get wet as it dries quicker
List 8 reasons for heat application
To bring more blood to the surface
warm chilled parts of the body
help relax tissue
increase temperature to a given area
for acute or chronic inflamatory conditions
reduce swelling
increase blood circulation
to relief tissue by contraction of muscles
list 4 indication for applying heat
provides healing for chronic inflammation of superficial wounds
relieve pain by contraction of muscles
aids in the healing of tissue
open boils
to promote local application of medication
What three ways can heat be transferred? give exmples
Conduction
convection
radiation
