What is colchicine?
A medication commonly used to treat gout with anti-inflammatory, anti-mitotic and anti-neutrophillic actions
Reduces **neutrophil **migration, chemotaxis adhesions and phagocytosis
Indications for Colchicine?
Bechets, Sweets
LCV
EN
Neutrohillic rich immunobullous disease, EBA, LABD, DH
Chronic apthous ulcers / stomatitis
Amyloidosis
Contraindications to Colchicine?
Hypersensitivity to a drug or a component
Blood dyscrasia
Severe, renal hepatic GI or cardiac disease
Pregnant or lactating - Cat D
Dosage of colchicine?
0.5 - 0.6 mg orally
2 -3 times daily
Side effects of colchicine?
Common:
- GI (diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting; dose-related)
Uncommon:
alopecia,
peripheral neuropathy,
myopathy
bone marrow suppression
multiorgan failure with acute overdose
Baseline Ix for Colchicine?
FBC,
UEC,
CMP
Monitoring guidelines
Repeat CBC monthly for several months then every 3 - 6 months
