Cognitive Interview Flashcards
Describe recall everything
Report all details of an event, no matter how irrelevant it seems.
How does recall everything improve EWT?
Could act as a trigger to a memory and additional information
Describe context reinstatement
Witness are asked to mentally place themselves at the event and the environment. They are asked to describe what they see, the weather and how they felt
Describe recall in reverse
Asked to report what happened in different chronological order order e.g. the end of the crime.
Describe changed perspective
Asked to recall incident in another person’s perspective who witnessed the crime e.g. another witness or perpetrator
How does context reinstatement improve EWT?
Use context and state cues may trigger memories of the event that may appear forgotten and now currently accessible due to retrieval failure.
How does recall in reverse improve EWT?
Prevents witness from reporting what was expected to happen (e.g. saying a schema) than what actually did happen. Prevents dishonesty as it is harder to lie when needing to reverse a story.
How does changed perspective improve EWT?
Prevents witness from reporting what was expected to happen (e.g. saying a schema) than what actually did happen.
