What is Maturation
Children do not ‘learn’ thier gender, they become aware of their gender as they ‘mature’. Kohlberg suggests Gender schema is a universal behaviour
What is conservation
A child is born without the understanding that it has a fixed gender. Between ages 2-7 they develop ability to ‘conserve’ the the essence of an item or person.
What is Kohlbergs Stage 1 of gender development and explain it.
Gender identity (2-3 years old)
Around 2 children are able to correctly identify themselves as a boy or girl
What is Kohlbergs stage 2 of gender development and explain it
Gender Stability (3-4) At 4 Children realise they will always stay the same gender
What is Kohlbergs stage 3 of gender development and explain it
Gender Constancy, (6-7) Around 6 children recognises that gender remains constant and consistent over time.
Explain what an Ingroup is
Group which a person identifies with, being a Girl means you identify yourself with that ingroup, apllies with town and football team.
