What is Maturation

A

Children do not ‘learn’ thier gender, they become aware of their gender as they ‘mature’. Kohlberg suggests Gender schema is a universal behaviour

What is conservation

A

A child is born without the understanding that it has a fixed gender. Between ages 2-7 they develop ability to ‘conserve’ the the essence of an item or person.

A

Gender identity (2-3 years old)
Around 2 children are able to correctly identify themselves as a boy or girl
