- challenge irrational/self-defeating beliefs
- Challenge them to validate these ideas
- Challenge the illogical nature of the person’s thinking and help minimize these beliefs
- Educate on how self-defeating beliefs will lead to future emotional and behavioral disturbances
- Use absurdity and humor to confront client’s thinking
- Replace with more rationally grounded ideas
