- helps patients confront with the reality of negative beliefs
- given homework, record events that made then happy
- gives evidence to prove that patients negative triad is incorrect
Ellis’s REBT
rational emotive behaviour therapy
Extents ABC model to ABCDE A- activating event B- beliefs C- consequences D- dispute E- effect
👍🏻identify and challenge irrational thoughts
- the therapist will talk with patient, lead to vigorous argument to prove the belief is irrational
- break link between event and depression
CBT Evaluation- it is effective
March et al (2007)
Compared results of anti depressant and CBT patients.
-81% improved in anti depressant
-86% is CBT improved
😊 good case and evidence for making CBT first choice for public health care systems like NHS
CBT Evaluation - may not work for most serve cases
Some cases the depression is so severe that parents cannot motivate themselves to engage with CBT
- so antidepressants would be more effective
-limitation as doesn’t always work for all cases of depression
CBT Evaluation- success may only be due to the relationship between therapist and patient
Rosenzweig (1936)
The most important element is the relationship.
-rather than any specific technique that is used
- it is just the opportunity to talk to someone that helps the most.
