Q

what is the STM?

A

a store with limited capacity and a duration of 15-30 seconds, it moves to the LTM if it is rehersed.

Q

what is the LTM?

A

a store with unlimited capacity, if retrieved from the LTM it will move to the STM to act from.

Q

what is the serial position effect?

A

refers to the finding that recolition accuracy varies depending on the order in which we receive the information to recall

Q

what is Milners study?

A

HM, he could use his Long term memory however he couldnt use his stm which proved that there were different stores

AIM- to see the effects of his surgery on his memory.

METHODS- (main) inteviews with him, cognative tasks, observing his behaviour

FINDINGS- he could remember how to complete a task but couldnt remember how or when he learnt it. Showing that his LTM store was working (motor memory) but his STM wasnt (episodic memory)
