Code Flashcards

1
Q

How are neural supported cables sized/named?

A

Number of current carrying conductors plus the neutral.
3 phase will be quadruplex - 3 hots and 1 neutral.

Q

How do you size tap conductors for a disconnect?

A

Under 3m, size conductor to amperage of disconnect
3-7.5m, size to switch or 1/3 the ampacity of the feeder/splitter, whichever is larger.

Q

When sizing conductors in parallel runs burried underground, how do you calculate amperage?

A

Use the tables for the diagrams, divide the total amperage by correction factor IF needed, divide amperage again by total of parallel runs.
Ex) 400a service in two parallel runs. Divide amperage by 0.886 for temp correction = 451.5A, now divide by 2 for the parallel runs. = 225A.

Q

When finding the fuse size to protect the feeder that supplies multiple motors, what do you do?

A

Use 28-204. Multiply the largest fla by 400% and then add the remaining FLas. Use T 29 to pick a fuse round down according to rule 28-204

Q

When picking the size of conductor to use for a feeder supplying multiple motors, what do you do?

A

Use highest FLA and multiply by 125%, then add all other FLAs, then use T 2. make sure you derate for termination temp
